Position OverviewThe GIS Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and presenting spatial data that inform site selection, land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and stakeholder engagement. The role includes updating maps, creating geospatial datasets, generating KMZ/KML files for visualization, conducting field verification activities, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of geographic information used across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Geospatial Data ManagementBuild, maintain and update geospatial datasets, base maps, and thematic maps, including metadata documentation and version control of GIS layers.Ensure accuracy, consistency and proper documentation of spatial data.Collect, clean, validate, and integrate spatial data from internal and external sources.
2. Spatial Analysis and Site AssessmentConduct spatial analyses for site screening, feasibility studies and project optimization to support planning and decision making.
3. Mapping and VisualizationProduce high-quality maps for management reviews, stakeholder communication, and development approvals for technical and non-technical stakeholders.Translate complex spatial data into thematic maps to aid in project updates, land assessments, progress tracking, risk mapping, and compliance documentation
4. Fieldwork & Ground VerificationConduct field surveys and validations to verify GIS datasets and GE map outputs.Collect GPS data, photos and field observations to validate site conditions and constraints.Integrate field data into the GIS database and refine spatial analyses accordingly.Support field teams by preparing navigation maps and coordinates for site visits.
5. Collaboration & SupportCoordinate closely with Development Management, Engineering, Planning, and Field Operations teams.Provide GIS technical support, data extraction, and mapping assistance to internal stakeholders.Help develop standards, templates, and best practices for GIS workflows.
Requirements & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Geography, Geodetic Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.With 3-5 years of GIS-related work for renewable energy or infrastructure developmentProficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, QGIS, or equivalent.Knowledge of spatial analysis, cartography principles, and GIS data structures.Ability to conduct fieldwork, including data collection and coordinates verification.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred SkillsFamiliarity with AutoCAD or other CAD tools.Understanding of local zoning, land use planning, or environmental regulationsFamiliarity with drone mapping or remote sensing (a plus).Ability to automate simple tasks using Python or GIS tools (advantage but not required).
