Position OverviewThe ideal candidate will bring full-cycle accounting experience, with the ability to manage everything from journal entries and bank reconciliations to month-end close and financial reporting. Prior exposure to percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting is highly preferred. You should be comfortable working in QuickBooks. Key Responsibilities Full-Cycle Accounting Perform all aspects of daily accounting functions including accounts payable, general ledger, and journal entries Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings, including account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation Process payroll entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts, working with third-party payroll providers as needed Monitor company credit card activity to ensure compliance with expense policy, ensure proper coding of activity, and obtain receipts from card holders, when necessary
Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare accurate and insightful monthly financial reports, profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and job cost analysis for review by the Controller and executive team Develop custom reports or dashboards to monitor KPIs related to project performance and profitability
Project Percentage-of-Completion (POC) Accounting Monitor project financials and apply percentage-of-completion accounting where applicable, ensuring accurate revenue recognition based on project milestones and completion stages Collaborate with operations and project managers to reconcile actual job costs against budgets and ensure all expenses are appropriately allocated Track project billing schedules, change orders, retainage, and ensure proper invoicing in accordance with contract terms
Software & System Oversight Maintain accounting records and transactions within QuickBooks (required) ensuring data integrity and consistency Assist in migrating or integrating accounting systems or software as the company scales Leverage software tools to streamline workflow, automate repetitive tasks, and reduce errors
Internal Controls & Compliance Ensure all accounting procedures comply with GAAP and internal financial policies Assist with the preparation and coordination of external audits, tax filings, and insurance audits Help establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting
Strategic Support to Controller Serve as the Controller’s primary support, providing regular updates on financial status and assisting with special projects, financial modeling, and long-term planning Identify inefficiencies or areas of financial risk and present solutions to improve operational efficiency Step in during the Controller’s absence to ensure business continuity
General Administrative & Team Support Support integration of acquired companies into ERP system through imports, clean up and any other necessary steps to ensure accurate financial information in a timely fashion Support general office administration related to accounting documentation, filing, and vendor/customer communication Collaborate cross-functionally with the operations, field, and management teams to ensure smooth financial operations across departments Take initiative in handling ad hoc requests or urgent accounting tasks with professionalism and discretion
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 3+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting Strong knowledge of POC (percentage-of-completion) accounting preferred Proficient in QuickBooks (required) Proficient in Microsoft Excel (required) Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks Excellent communication and organizational skills Experience in construction, service-based, or project-based businesses is a plus
